Being a Black Female Entrepreneur

I became a physician because I love science and people. I became a dermatologist because I have a passion for skin, hair and nails and love the intersection between health and beauty. It is clear that healthy people are naturally beautiful. Dermatology affords the opportunity for me to use skill sets that help people look and feel their best.

My private dermatology practice has always been my first career love. I enjoy the generations of families that I meet, my colleagues & staff in the office. I am also challenged by today's healthcare environment that is ever-changing and complex. It has become clear that healthcare is very difficult and insanely expensive. With the demands facing individuals and families alike, LivSo has become a way to simplify the routine for people who suffer from dry itchy scalp. Many of the people who need LivSo happen to be people of color with heavily textured hair. As a black woman, I have a unique perspective and sensitivity to these issues. This product line was developed with a laser focus on the problems that women and people of color face.

Ultimately, it is important for people who are culturally sensitive to the needs of the people who they serve to participate in business and product development for these communities. Diversity and inclusion are as important as ever these days. My goal is to contribute excellence to the marketplace and offer a product that is effective and safe within the industry. As a physician dermatologist, I know that LivSo speaks to the needs of people with dry itchy scalp and curly/textured hair. The fact that I happen to be a black woman underscores my sensitivity to the struggle of my cultural group, but also frees me to speak to others outside of my own group who have the issue of dry itchy scalp & may benefit from a gentle, hydrating product that can be shared widely. I welcome the opportunity to share and be inclusive. We have so much to give & am grateful for the chance to do that.
